Alaska and Nigeria: Which is Bigger?

The United States is considered to be one of the biggest countries in the world, covering over 9.834 million km² in land area. The country has 50 states and each state has counties and municipalities, with a population of 329.5 million as of 2020, this makes it the third most populated country in the world.

The US is home to people of different cultures and races and has many historical landmarks and places like times square, the statue of liberty, Walt Disney, and many others which make it a great tourist destination.

Due to its remarkable size, some states in the USA are even bigger than some countries in the world.

Alaska and Nigeria: Which is Bigger?

At 1.723 million km², Alaska is almost twice the size of Nigeria which is only 923,768 km². In terms of population, Nigeria has 206.1 million people (2020), while Alaska has 736,990 people as of 2020.

A Brief Description of Nigeria 

Nigeria is a country located in West Africa that spans over 350,000 sq, mi. The population of Nigeria is over 200 million people which makes it the country with the highest population in Africa and the 6th most populous country in the world. Nigeria is bounded to the east by Cameroon, to the north by Niger, and Benin republic in the West. It is situated between the Sahel and Gulf of Guinea in the north and south respectively.

Nigeria as a country gained its independence on 1st October 1960, from the British colonies. Nigeria was named in 1897 by Flora shaw, who later became the wife of the British administrator Lord Lugard.

The biggest state in Nigeria is Niger state with a size of 76,363 km². Niger is a state in Northern Nigeria. Lagos state is the most populated state in Nigeria with a population count of over twenty million people. It is closely followed by Kano state with over 16 million people. 

People of different ethnic groups and cultures live in Nigeria. Nigeria has over 250 different ethnic groups. The three main ethnic groups in Nigeria are the Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba. The languages spoken in Nigeria are as many if not more than the ethnic groups in the country. English language and pidgin English have been adopted as second and third languages in Nigeria.

Nigeria consists of 36 states and 774 local government areas. Each state has a Governor, assisted by a deputy Governor. Each local government area is controlled by a Local government 

Chairman, who is assisted by the vice Chairman. Nigeria is ruled by a President who is the head of state and also the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. He is also assisted by a Vice president who is responsible for the affairs of the country in the absence of the President.

A brief description of Alaska 

Alaska is the biggest state in all of the USA covering. It is located in the western part of the united states, it lies Northwest of North America. Alaska is bounded to the East by the British Columbian province, the Artic ocean to the North, and the Pacific ocean.

The state was created on 3rd January 1959 with its capital seat located at Juneau. Alaska is divided into boroughs unlike other states in the country. A borough is governed by a Borough President. The state is divided into 19 organized boroughs and one unorganized borough. The largest borough is Utqiaġvik with a land area of 94,796 sq mi (245,520 km²) while the most populated borough is Anchorage Municipality with a population of 288,121 people. There are 20 distinct languages spoken in Alaska, but the most common one is Yupik.
